Racking and Warehouse Efficiency

Improving the operations within your warehouse is not only a focus on improving your overall efficiency but also the profitability of the company, to do this, you can focus on improving a few areas – one being your warehouse storage equipment.

The Improvement in Your Warehouse Storage

If the 2020s have taught us anything, it is to expect the unexpected – and the unexpected shift and reliance on online shopping for a whole variety of products and needs have seen many businesses ill-equipped to handle it.

Increasing amounts of inventory, both year-long and seasonal, is something that warehouses have had to take onboard without the ability to buy an extra warehouse. It has proven challenging and had to make companies look deeper into their available space.

Optimising the warehouse has been the way to mitigate the issues and see an improvement in overall efficiency. This has seen shifts into more compatible pallet racking systems that can hold even more stock up high.

Additional Shelving

Many companies have also looked into how they have been mixing their stock and witnessing how much space they have left to waste by having smaller items in with the larger ones.

One way they have combatted this is by moving the smaller items to commercial shelving in a separate part of the warehouse so that the space on pallet racking can be saved for the much-needed larger inventory.

This has also reduced the amount of traffic in the aisles which helps with picking times and getting orders out on time – as well as reducing the amount of missing stock and items because they are too hard to find amongst the larger items.

Regular Inspections

One area that many warehouses are falling behind on is both training and safety inspections, which can have a huge impact on the efficiency of the workplace.

The training is especially within the arena of safety around the aisles and reporting on any damage being done – no matter how small – to your warehouse equipment. The prospect of a full-racking system failure from employees not knowing how to report or manoeuvre safely around the structure is extremely high.

This calls for regular inspections to be held of the warehouse storage equipment and for training to be conducted every quarter on how to safely manoeuvre around the workplace.

This proves to be a major plus in making the warehouse more operational and efficient.
